Outdoor Adventures in the Willmar Lakes Area
I sit at home on a windy Sunday afternoon, thinking about the week ahead. I am craving the outdoors and some different activities for me and my husband to do. We are pretty fortunate to live where we do, with so many fun things to choose from. Here is a few of the items I came up with for our fun outdoors week ahead.
First, a hike out at Sibley State Park is in order! There are miles of hiking trails for all skill levels and plenty of space for social distancing. One of the easiest hikes, but a must do on each trip, is the short hike up to the Mount Tom lookout. The view from Mount Tom is breathtaking in all seasons. I like to soak it in and allow some fresh perspective on my days and nights ahead. From there we will take the Pond View Trail. It’s another easy trail that takes you through the wetlands of Sibley State Park. The trails of Sibley State Park are known for their beautiful vistas and wind through forest, farmland and prairie knolls.
Our next adventure will be a bike ride on the Glacial Lakes State Trail. I think we will start in Spicer and head to New London. I am sure we will stop on the Nest Lake Bridge for a picture. It’s one of our top 10 Instagram spots in the area. When we get to New London, we will head to The Deep Freeze for a treat! I figure the calories I burn riding certainly entitles me to a sweet treat from one of my favorite places. Right? If we feel adventurous, we might take a loop around Green Lake also. The trail and road routes in the Willmar Lakes Area, offer so many different paths for cycling fun. Some of our favorites include the Glacial Lakes State Trail, Robbins Island Trails, Eagle Lake Trail and the road route around Green Lake.
On a calm evening, we will grab our kayaks and head to Robbins Island Regional Park to explore the water trails there. This is a nice easy beginning paddle exploring the waters of both Foot Lake and Willmar Lake. We have been enjoying all the different water trails in our area and this easy one will be a perfect way to relax after a long day. If we are up for more of a challenge, we might head to the Crow River in New London. here are great water trails both upstream and downstream on the Crow River.
Not sure which activity we will do first but can’t wait to get outdoors and explore the Willmar Lakes Area via hiking, biking and kayaking this week! Three great activities to do in our beautiful lake country! Follow us on Instagram to see our adventures!
